Beitou Hot Springs

Carly

Yesterday (the 4th) we went to Beitou (pronounced Baytoe) hot springs. It was really fun because there were different temperatures of pools and also cold ones so you can cool of if you are too hot. The sulfur smelled like burnt plastic. The hot springs are stone pools on the slant of a hill. To get there we came from the top of the hill and walked down the stairs. It cost four dollars for all of us to enter. There were six pools total including two cold ones. There is an extremely hot one but people can still go in it. It was 45˚C! The second hottest one Mama and Daddy went in but they didn't let us. But the ones I liked were the plain old hot ones and the two cold ones. I liked the cold ones because once you got in, they didn't seem as cold as they were and they relaxed you.

I noticed that most of the people were old locals and there were lots of them. One of the people I thought was interesting was a skinny, old man with a hunchback. His ribs were visible and his teeth were brown and decayed. There was also a really cute baby that was sitting on his dad's shoulders. His mouth was open so it looked like he was saying "Aahh" the whole time but no sound was coming out. He had a bathing suit that looked like a wetsuit.

After getting out of the hot springs, we walked to the main hot spring that was REALLY, REALLY hot. Of course you couldn't swim in it because it was 90˚C!!!!!!! That's almost at the boiling point!!!!
